    Aug 2

    Gassed, John Singer Sargent

I know it’s not my place and I’ve been completely unhinged in a bad way since the funeral, probably sometime before […], but you should consider stopping the war if you could. You wouldn’t be a weaker man for it but a stronger one. I do mean it. To be honest I don’t want to be a part of this anymore and as I said to Sasha a few weeks ago you all could nuke each other for all I care. But I feel I have to say this. If the Chinese (unofficially) and the Americans (officially) agree on something, perhaps it is a good time to take a pause and listen, sweetie. It is not about you or the ideas in your head, you know that. Your ideas are too entrenched and too unmalleable to be of any worth. They are calcified as hard facts. At first I did believe in you waging the war for the obvious “existential” reason but after everything that happened between you and me and the psychology I’ve been witnessing up-close I’m beginning to seriously doubt that. And even if it started as that, it has now mutated to actually threaten you existentially. Though I’m not sure if the information I’ve been exposed to is Western propaganda but I trust the officials at the highest level – the heads of state on the same level as you – making the moves to try to temper your downward path of senseless destruction. I’ve read that it was not in the best interests of the U.S. to have a weakened Russia being sold for parts and subsumed under China. Maybe they could move a needle on your behalf, who knows. And even if they push for a hard bargain, what’s wrong with accepting it? The Russian psychology of strength-weakness dichotomy makes no sense to me. No one in the wider world calls a man strong for being a distempered wreck, especially a senselessly or even purposefully violent one. Strength radiates outward through selfless actions and not destructive actions. Strength in a man of real worth is emotional strength. I fear your idea of strength is merely egoistical. It is crass and selfish and self-aggrandising. I fear also that you would rather go down with the ship in the same way Jim Jones took his people down with him when he didn’t need to. His ego was so intertwined with his community he could no longer separate his sense of self from the welfare of his flock. He felt the little society he built up was a part of him – a big part of him and his ultimate life purpose. He felt that he owned them but was also responsible for them. The idea of himself became so enmeshed with that of his people and when his mind started to deteriorate the living conditions of his people did also because he took it out on them and made things worse for them. And that’s what Jonestown was about. The man as the creator and the destroyer of human lives. He uplifted them like they were everything in his world and tore them down in one act of cruelty as if they were nothing in any world. But you are not like that. I don’t believe you are that. I know there’s a slim but serious chance that the West couldn’t be stopped at this point (though your biggest ally China doesn’t think so and so I trust their judgement on this) but you have to have faith in people and you have to believe in real actual changes. One thing I’ve learned interacting with you and your people is that you are so fixed in your way and you always see the worst in everything. Everything is a threat, a lie, a deception, a manipulation. True perhaps for your culture but not universally true elsewhere. And as I’ve said before, that just because they started the expansion doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t regret it. The rest of the world feels guilt, remorse, responsibility, and complicity. Whereas your culture is so brutal and unrelenting and unapologetic no one would admit fault in themselves however miserable that made them and everyone around them. You cannot project your culture and your experiences within it as something that represents the whole world. And though there are people who want to see you go down, not everyone does. And that ‘not everyone’ is your sliver of hope. And you have to try, sweetheart. You can still turn this around. There is no need to go down the path of further destruction. I fear you have gone into a catastrophic mode of thinking and feeling after being paralysed and traumatised by something you yourself brought about and you hated yourself for that. But that’s just something that exists within you. You don’t need to radiate that outward especially because it’s a self-feeding loop. The more you radiate it the more it becomes real and the more it is perpetuated and amplified and cyclical. One thing you can do to get rid of that anger and hatred is perhaps to change the situation that went awry because of you for the better. To alleviate the misery you brought about and atone for your actions. That’s how the festering self-loathing goes away. You fix the outer to alleviate the inner. Ultimately it is you who benefits.

I don’t know why I’m writing out all this. Maybe for the first time I realised you misunderstood my “overture” to be a musical prelude which an overture also is and so I should have been more generous in my interpretation of you. Though to be honest, I still want to see you go down and now is as good a time as any. I think the authoritarian model of governance brings out the worst in humanity that it’s no longer just a “political” issue but a uniquely “human” one. I think your culture and your people are incurable. To cure the temperament of your people and the mood of your culture is to cure the anomaly of authoritarianism and so it would never be permitted to happen. To shatter the ills of your society, you would have to shatter the state that governs it. For that, your state as we know it would have to be dissolved. Whether that should be through internal or external upending remains to be seen. And that’s probably why I wrote what I did earlier. I wanted you to be understood on a human level which is something you would never experience in your lifetime in a culture so antithetical to human compassion and human dignity and human psychology. And in a way what I wrote would fall on deaf ears because your temperament shaped by your culture would not permit you to understand it or act on it in the same way none of what I said to Anton seems to have been registered by him. It fuels my anger and disgust even more. If only he was raised in a better, more civilised, less authoritarian culture, I and no one else would have to suffer because of it. If only you… none of us would have to suffer from it. It’s all related, don’t you see?

Do you think love for a person trumps love for humanity? Do you think what you have shown me is love? What your friend has shown me is? That’s a “no” on two counts. Neither of you even care to show me a gesture of kindness. Do you really think me asking for a small sum of money to survive for another month is me being a nag all this time? Do you understand what a symbolic gesture means? So why should I help you? Why would I want to? If the culture and the nation raise you to be so monstrous and treasonous such that you lack the most basic ingredient of what makes you a “human” as well as a good “citizen” and a good “ruler”, then why should it stand? Why shouldn’t we be applauding what’s happening to your country?

Do you think love for oneself trumps love for humanity? Do you think love of my own life should take precedence over that of other lives and of humanity as a whole? You don’t even think that way. You’re not even capable of thinking in selfless abstraction. It is not even your life we are talking about. It is your egoistic selfish needs. It is your ego and not your life. The love of one’s ego should trump the love of humanity and world peace and actual human lives. This is where you are at. This is where you stand. I think we should hack away at your legs, no?

Do you think that perhaps Andre’s ex wife who aborted two of his children in secret while being married to him was the result of him not listening to her or respecting her needs? Or was it the result of her not communicating those needs to him? Did she tell him beforehand she never wanted to have kids and he refused to respect her decision and her bodily autonomy? Did she not tell him because she selfishly wanted both him and a childfree marriage and so deceived him? Did he go stealth in hope of impregnating her against her own wishes? Who deceived who? Who was dishonest to who? Who was taking advantage of who? Why are you people so wretched to one another? So selfish? So disrespectful? So unable to love and care and communicate? So unable to reason or compromise or negotiate? In loving relationships no less. In marriages. In love. The foundation of family and children and all that’s good and holy in this world.

Did you guys kill Lindsey Graham to make a statement? That’s gotta be one of the stupidest moves you could ever possibly make. You do know that he’s well-regarded and well-respected across the aisle within the highest echelons of American politics, right? I know this because all the leftist night hosts and comedians barely had anything bad to say about him and it was always good-natured and respectful though they openly ridicule other Republicans all the time in a personal way too I might add. This is what happens when you live in a society deeply lacking in both emotional and social intelligence. You miscalculate the human dimension in the worst of ways. You don’t know why what you’ve been doing to me is egregiously bad and why what you did to Graham is going to fan the flame and make everything much, much worse. I did have a sinking feeling in my stomach when I saw his picture in the news holding that drone in Ukraine smiling gleefully into the camera the day before he passed, the way I did when I saw the Reddit headline of Ursula von de Leyen publicly using the “predator” label and that post was at the top of my feed. Well, I sincerely hope they don’t stop now. Wherever I maybe and whatever will happen to me I do hope the gloves never come back on.

It was that photo of him that got him killed, wasn’t it? It wasn’t the sanctions bill. You could have killed him much sooner or you could have stalled it or undercut its implementation and enforcement in a much less overt manner. You could have found a way to work around it or work with it. You didn’t really have to kill him. But you did in the heat of the moment without any regard for consequences. Remember Congressman Leo Ryan of Jonestown? The one executed in cold blood at the Port Kaituma airstrip because Jones couldn’t stand to have his authority undermined and challenged by another powerful man? Say what you want about American politicians being corrupted but don’t we all find someone like him and Lindsey Graham indelibly remarkable? True heroes of the people? You would have been a hero for your people if you were to silence him for the bill he pushed for. But that’s not why you did it. You did it for the same reason Jim Jones did.

    — Salisa to Anton, July 20th, 2026

This is a distinctive and unique evil.  It has always been driven by a hatred above all else, a hatred for civilization itself.  It is a revolt of the worst against the best, a revolt of the weak and the cowardly against the strong and the good.  It is perpetrated by those who cannot build, who cannot create, who cannot achieve great things, and take their revenge upon the world for their own inadequacy by seeking to destroy those who can.  This is what radical leftism is.  It may wear various different slogans and ideologies across place and time.  They can call themselves anti-capitalist or anti-imperialist or communist or anarchist or Marxist.  But the fundamental character is always the same.  It’s always the same.

It is a poisonous resentment cloaked in the language of equality and justice and liberation, an overwhelming need to tear down what greater men have built, to wreck what is beautiful and what is right on behalf of people who are only filled with ugliness and have nothing else to offer the world.  Through violence and through terror, they once again seek to impose their ugliness on all of us.  The old dogma was wrong.  The old dogma was wrong; none of this is driven by idealism.  It is not utopian.  In fact, it is the opposite.

One of the criticisms you sometimes hear of communism, for example, is that it sounds good in theory, but it never works in practice.  That’s actually not true.  Communism does not sound good in theory.  The world it envisions for all of us is small, flat, grey, leveled of all exception, drained of all that is good and noble in the human soul.  The world it envisions is a world without courage, a world without creativity or ambition, a world without heroes or glory or great causes to strive towards, without – a world without miracles, without myths, without men who rise above the rest to do incredible and extraordinary things.  And the world communism envisions is a world without God.

For these architects of revolutionary violence, the towering achievement of our civilization – for them it’s an unbearable humiliation, a reminder of what they cannot do and a reminder of what they cannot be.  So they choose instead to destroy.  They attack pipelines; they attack railroads; they attack power grids and laboratories, the physical embodied symbols of power and invention and achievement.  This is the nature of the terrorism we face today.  They despise the West because the West is great.

    — Marco Rubio: The Resurgence of Political Terrorism, July 16th, 2026

Inevitably, left to run its course, it always becomes a gulag. It always becomes the mass imprisonment of political enemies, the stripping of their rights and freedoms, inflicting immense pain, humiliation, suffering in order to establish complete and total control – control through psychological and physical and actual terror. And we have to understand that that is the scope and the extent of the threat that we face.

    […]

But let’s not pretend for a moment that these radical leftists, these terrorists, are operating from a place of sincere political conviction.  Sure, there are plenty of useful idiots that they use who may believe these discredited ideologies.  The leftist is fundamentally motivated by envy, by hatred, by jealousy.  The leftist looks at what is beautiful and what is good and what is natural and is filled with envy and hatred.  The leftist looks at a perfect family with a perfect life and a perfect job and perfect kids that goes to church every Sunday and is filled with a feeling of inadequacy and jealousy, and they covet.  And they turn those emotions ultimately into a desire to subjugate, to oppress, and to inflict pain and suffering.

It’s not a coincidence that when you look at these violent antifa demonstrations and you see any photograph of those who were assembled – to be blunt, not one of the people that is demonstrating looks like a normal person.  Not one looks normal.  They’re all deformed in some way – in their appearance, in their dress, in their mannerism.  Why is that?  Why?  If you look at two photographs and you see a normal American in the street and you see an Antifa protest, why do the people that are violently demonstrating – why is there not one normal-looking person among them? Every one of them, through the course of their life and their decisions, has scarred their body and their appearance in many different ways, to the point in which their outer appearance becomes a manifestation of their inner hatred.

Trust your instincts to all people and across all civilizations.  You know what normal is.  You know what beautiful is.  You know what good is.  You know that families are right.  You know that children are precious and beautiful and must be protected.  You know that the criminal and the junkie and the predator is a threat to normal, healthy living.  This is so much deeper than issues about taxation and regulation, although they’re incredibly important.  It’s about normal, healthy, ordered living.

And the violent leftist, for these deep-seated reasons, going back to the earliest wisdom taught to us in the Bible about coveting – and I’m not talking about rich versus poor.  I’m talking about a much deeper kind of coveting – coveting people who are morally superior, who are superior in the simple, truthful way they live their lives, people that they look at who are happy and ordered and peaceful and contributing to their communities.  That burns an ember in them, and that’s how you end up with the horrors we’ve seen throughout history, where good families are dragged out into the street and executed.

    Temptation, Yu Sugawara

I feel pity for you also knowing that Russians are inherently not capable of having a genuine relationship that isn’t mutually exploitative or transactional or superficial or empty. I’m sure both of you have been trying your best. But add in the remarkable wealth and access you are just absolutely hopeless at it and will never know what normal loving relationships are like in this lifetime as with the rest of the world and you are too old to start over now. I mean what can you do with men who have never had any emotional or real substance to their relationship? Where do you even start with them? They don’t know what’s “normal”. They spend their whole lives living in such an abnormal culture so rotten and so prickly that even love and romance are pervaded with mild unpleasantness and unstated hostilities and dislikes. They don’t know how to process or express their emotions properly. They are clueless as to how to demonstrate care and respect for another person. They don’t even know how to separate what they “like” from what they “lust” after and always mistake lust for love and labour and suffer their whole pathetic little lives under that fact and even bring an innocent life into this world under that miserable condition. And they called that love and they called that family. Complete orcs, complete ogres. It’s not an overstatement. I definitely would not have wished that on my worst enemies.

A constitution so Russian you make yourself and everyone around you so miserable. A mentality so Russian you will never know what love is from the day you were born to the day you will die. Feel pity for yourself, won’t you?

The world might be better off seeing that kind of constitution and mentality completely exterminated. But I’m not supposed to be saying that. I’m supposed to at least remain impartial. But why should I be? After everything you have done to me and to innocent people around the world? Why should I be so impartial? So sympathetic? So understanding? Towards a bunch of ungrateful cunts with uncultivated minds and uncouth hearts. Why should I demonstrate my better nature when all you have done is to demonstrate your worst?

I do feel sorry for you because you don’t know how to think and act outside your own Russian mentality. Your culture is no help to you and one can even say it makes you worse off in a number of ways and that it fosters the worst impulses in you and fans that flame when given an opportunity. And that opportunity is so rife because you are so clueless and ignorant and incompetent to begin with.

One can even say it makes you mentally ill and morally evil. What’s wrong with just talking to me rather than hurting people? A simple “no” would have sufficed. Whether it’s “no, you cannot leave” or “no, talk to me instead of him” I would have been able to work with that and build on that. But no, no. You can’t simply talk to me. Whether it’s because you self-select dumb stubborn cows like Tatiana (aka stupid Russian bitches with low IQs) to be your girlfriends and wives or because all Russian bitches are like that (dumb stubborn cows with low IQs which you so worship being stupid Russian cunts such as yourselves) you simply cannot vocalise your likes or dislikes or emotions or anger like normal human beings but have to lash out violently like dumb despicable beasts. There’s no getting anywhere with men or women like that. Stock too rotten. Maybe time to empty out the said stock. Because you are not just hurting yourselves or hurting one another among yourselves but other innocent people and outsiders who don’t wish to have anything to do with you. You have your rights to self-determination as long as you don’t brutalise others who are not your own. But you can’t even bring yourself to not do that. That would be against your cultural grain, wouldn’t it?

It’s true that some group of people simply don’t know how to act “human”. So it’s a good thing you don’t interbreed with the race of people who do. The incompatibility is so profound it would have been bestiality proper.

“Speak, damn beast!” That’s what everyone wants to see you do all this time. With spoken words, comes reason. With reason, comes understanding. Of your own mind or that of others. But then again the so-called Age of Enlightenment didn’t actually sweep that far East of Europe.

But then I shouldn’t let my hatred for your race overpower my consideration for you as a unique individual in relation to me. But we all know that’s just my mind rationalising the situation I’m in. In any case, I cannot help you overcome your stupidity at the end of the day. What I think and feel has no bearing on what happens to you. What you do to me, however, does. You could have been let off easily all this time if you’ve just treated me properly. But then again, being Russian you don’t actually know what that means. So we’re in a bit of a pickle, eh?

I’m sorry. Was the Empire State Building you? How many times do I have to say to you that these oblique grand gestures are not helping your case given the situation and how I’m fed up with it? Am I supposed to feel delighted and giddy completely ignoring the fact that you’ve also killed people because of me? Do you have the habit of playing house with the psychopathic gold-digging status-obsessed women much? Your “Russian” approach only works with the fellow Russian cows, you know that right? With women raised without values and morals which is to say every woman in your country, right? Do you think you can come to understand what “values and morals” I mean when you’ve been bred and brought up without them surrounded by people also outrageously lacking in them your entire life? I’m being mean to you again, aren’t I? Do you think I’m exaggerating when I say that probably nearly all Russian women display what can be classified as disturbing psychopathic behaviours? Same with the men? Even more so with the men? Do you think normal healthy people like me could grow to love psychopathic people like you?

Your grand gesture might be appreciated by women brought up within your own psychopathic culture embodying the fuck-all grandiose narcissistic attitudes especially if it privileges them and disadvantages everyone else. We’ve gotta state outright at this point that Russian culture is indeed quite psychopathic if not fairly psychopathic. Dominance and exploitation without any regard for others in the service of one’s ego. You both have exhibited clinically psychopathic behaviours not just in your line of duty but in your personal life towards others close to you (for example, me). A fellow psychopath would find your devotion to me charming regardless of how you treat others especially those not in close relation to me. Anton thinks I should fall in love with him despite his heinous treatment of women. Only narcs or psychopaths (or in this case fellow Russians) would be capable which is probably why he’s been getting away with it his whole life. You think I should fall in love with you despite what you’ve done and the moral qualities you don’t exhibit. Only narcs or psychopaths (or in this case fellow Russians) would be capable which is probably why you’ve been doing it and won’t stop doing it. I do understand that Russian people lack moral values and personal ethics. They don’t essentially care about anyone or anything at large in any meaningful way. Not as long as it benefits them. But I’m not like that. I’m not from your culture. You don’t get this. Which is why the behaviour of the other side is always going to puzzle you. You and your 1D psychopathic worthless culture.

But I’m sure you’re trying your best and that’s gotta count for something. I’m still alive even after all this. That’s gotta count for something.

I do not know what patterns of behaviour you expect from me. I’m from a different culture that’s prosocial instead of antisocial. Don’t you think that counts for anything?

Sadly you can never interpret my behaviours objectively or in a psychologically sensible manner that fits with my personal temperament. You can only do so from your own cultural lens which is to say narcissistic and antisocial and exploitative and transactional. You do however probably hope that love will transcend all this. But love does not exist in the vacuum. Love is shored up by little acts and little thoughts that are intertwined with and expressed through one’s cultural and personal make-ups. But your personal views and treatments of me are always going to be coloured by your cultural understanding of people as you know them and your own cultural behaviours as you exhibit them. One can even say how we relate to one another is “culture”. How you choose to relate to me (within your Russian culture) is never going to be exactly how I relate to you (within my Thai and Western culture). That’s where misunderstandings arise.

Having said all this, I still cannot help you. I don’t know how to and maybe I don’t even want to. But just know this: I want you to act rationally in the way that you can which best benefits your country. I guess I’m really not going anywhere as long as you’re still alive. Maybe we’ll get to test that theory one day sometime soon. I don’t look forward to it though.

I don’t understand why we can’t talk it out. Most of the other side is always going to disregard what I say and do because to them it’s extreme coercion and they are against it on principle or they are against you on principle right from the start and this only incenses them even more. But there’s probably a fairly large number of people who are pragmatists and soft liners who deal in real(geo)politik and this thing with me is so cocked up they hate to have anything to do with it being on pins and needles all the time. Not to mention it’s so goddamn nonsensical and tired. I think your paranoia and distrust of people and your psychotic behaviours of over-reaction and over-retaliation against me and everyone else certainly makes everything worse and worse. You don’t know how to make things “good” between us. Only how to make them worse and how to blow things out of proportion when they don’t go your way. That’s the defeatist negative Russian attitude in you. You don’t know how to stabilise and repair the situation as needed. You don’t have the skills needed to socially recover and reconcile because Russian emotions run on the extremes. The way infant emotions do.

And you make everything worse by withholding all forms of communication and all kinds of affection with me. Which is why I cannot help you. I don’t even understand you.

You wearing your invulnerable armour and projecting invincible strength as per the psychopathic Russian customs (which is stupid by the way) is doing the opposite of endearing you to anyone. It’s doing more harm than good even though it’s probably your only (peaceful) way out of this. But I cannot talk a man out of being Russian. I’m wasting my breath with you.

Besides it might just be too late. You might have unleashed epic fury on a grand scale and there might not be coming back from that. I hope that’s not the case though. But again, there’s not much I can do. You murdered monks. On pilgrimage walking barefoot on the searing asphalt in deep meditation as the ultimate act of faith and self-sacrifice. How do we even come back from that? And why on earth? Why would you do that? I wish I could say it was false flag to sow anger and discord but you pinged my inbox that morning. After my messages to Sebastian. After learning about the Empire State Building stunt just right before. So of course it was you. And you wanted me to know it was you. But why? Why go through all that trouble? Why won’t you just talk to me? A simple “no” would have sufficed, you know that right? Two little characters on the screen instead of a self-indulgent act of hateful sadism. I mean, why? It’s so senseless and nonsensical. If that’s not going to anger everyone then what is?

And how many times do I have to say I’m not fighting you? You don’t extend me an invitation. You don’t talk to me. You don’t talk about me with other parties who are genuinely concerned for me and my wellbeing, do you? You won’t acknowledge what’s going on even, right? Still total plausible deniability, correct? It’s deliberately provocative, isn’t it? Do you think my heart is still in it with any of this with you at this point?

Does doing any of this make you happy? Or make me happy with you? If not, why do it? It’s like Anton and his little fault-finding behaviours wanting to quibble over Andre or men’s penis size which is to say over nothing at all. It’s a self-defeating and relationship-destroying act that amounts to nothing good or positive in the short term, medium term or long term. Is this what a Russian relationship looks like? Miserable alone, miserable together? And you think your race and your people are remotely capable of knowing what love is?

Why can’t people independently discover Bach or Glenn Gould? Why do you think I called him Sebastian? Johannes “Sebastian” Bach. Our favourite composer.

    — Salisa, Journal: August 14th, 2025

I remember Sebastian’s book launch was on Wednesday June 5th, 2019 which was a Chatham House event in London (cross-checked with @Nigelgd1, June 1st 2019). FCCT was an October event in Bangkok in the same year. I watched the recording on Youtube.

In December 2019, I walked into Karmakamet to hand-deliver a farewell gift (he probably swept it for bugs after), a Klimt notebook that features one of my favourite paintings.

Sweetie, I don’t want to override or contradict or speak for the entire diplomatic corps and Sinologists who populate your rank and file but.. are you doing these things in China? The Chinese are cautious and clever people, you know that. They are extremely circumspect most of all. Whatever it is you’re doing is not going to win you any favour with them and is actually anathema to the Chinese ethos. You can always reason with people, any people, however dire the situation is. I genuinely believe that. So whatever is distressing you, there must be better ways than demonstrating force and alienating them. Hearts and minds, do you know this phrase? Goes for allies as well as populace.

Don’t you know this was how I knew something wasn’t right with the Nong Bua Lamphu nursery massacre? You must have witnessed this. My video call with my Aussie partner right after it happened and my attempt to convince him that it didn’t pass the smell test. “Why did he burn the white truck it made no sense? There’s no way a Thai could have done this. It’s not in our cultural DNA. I don’t believe it. It must have been staged. No way in hell.” He dismissed it at the time but I read all the details to the letter. Thais are inherently not capable of an atrocity of this magnitude even if he was on cocaine and mentally ill. Don’t you know that the most individually anti-social act in all of Thai history was the cannibal killer named Si Ouey? That was just about it with the Thais. All the mass shootings at shopping mall all those years ago seem highly suspect as well. It’s like you transplant an anomaly of one culture onto another where such an act is almost inconceivable and entirely foreign to our way of life. I know my culture and my people well. Being prosocial is in our DNA. China is not that far off from us I don’t think. That doesn’t explain the cultural revolution but then again I’m not a Sinologist.

In a lot of Asian cultures collective harmony and social order are highly valued and truly antisocial acts are rare. So you must not alienate the Asians in this way. We abhor these actions through and through. The West probably not so much, but in Asia you have to be careful with your violent outbursts. We who value the collective over the individual cannot stand them.

The thing is Si Ouey wasn’t even Thai. He was a Chinese migrant and my point still stands. You are alienating me with your antisocial behaviours. I am deeply Thai beneath my Western veneer. I am Buddhist by upbringing and you are not winning any favour with me.

In our old literature like Khun Chang Khun Phan there were men who were antiheroes or lotharios or swashbucklers and there are reasons those stories are not being taught in Thai schools at all. They are considered immoral and so learning about them is forbidden (maybe not explicitly but it’s heavily frowned upon for sure). I think in the past thirty or forty years the Thais have revamped their male ideals and cultural icons. Classic Thai gentlemen are cleanly dressed and polite to a fault. If you watch Thai lakorns from the 1990s to the early 2010s the male protagonists are so prim and proper they fade into the background of the drama. It is the women who wrecked their havoc and the men who were mafia. After 2010s the cultural landscape was heavily influenced by Korean and Japanese imports. The male protagonists started having some personality and flavour and quirks to them. The women still continue to browbeat everyone on screen. These days young men I see on TV style their hair like they are Koreans and dress like they are hip hop stars. It is a great tragedy and I miss classic Thai gentlemen with their civilised parlance and demeanor and mannerism.

I have seen historical Chinese dramas in passing. Very popular back in the days. Isn’t that how they portray the classic male ideal over there? Have you ever seen them? Civilised restrained chivalrous courageous polite bordering on mute. That’s what I can recall from my hazy splotchy memory anyway. So whatever behaviours you are projecting will not sit well with a group of people who grew up valuing heroism and wisdom and civility above all. You should not go against their cultural grain.

I think antiheroes as heroes is still largely a Western phenomenon and a very recent one. In Asia especially prior to Western and Hollywood influences trickling in there are clear moral storylines and black-and-white good guys vs bad guys and not just in their fight against one another but in how they treat a female protagonist. Basically you are acting like the bad guy in every Asian movie and tv show ever made not just in your general behaviours but also in how you and your men treat me. Asian men are much more chivalrous than Western men when it comes to women and you always have to keep this in mind. Women are greatly valued across Asian cultures. You have to understand where they are coming from.

What’s with your yacht in the news? I’ve made up my mind to find my way to the West and you have two days to make an overture to me or we’ll see each other on different sides at the end of this. It’s up to you. It’s always been up to you.
